Yarn bombing on Longshore

The Tacony LAB Community Arts Center, 6918 Torresdale Ave., on Saturday welcomed people to visit and learn more about its recent “yarn bombing.”

During the month-long effort, artist Lucia Alber, of Vox Populi, 319 N. 11th St., led a campaign to decorate eight trees and eight former parking meters with yarn on the 6900 block of Torresdale Ave.

LAB coordinator Barb Baur said the idea originated as the pandemic forced the center to rethink its space, leading to the outdoor project and display.

City Councilman David Oh was among those checking out the artwork.

The Tacony LAB was founded in 2017 by Mural Arts Philadelphia with sponsorship from Councilman Bobby Henon.
