Northeast motorists in the next few days can get a free thorough car wash while contributing to a worthy cause.

Co-owners K.C. Fordham and Chris Caporale and their team are working hard to open Sud’s Factory, a car wash at 7930 Roosevelt Blvd.

While the grand opening is set for Saturday at 8 a.m., Sud’s is having a soft opening in the days leading up to then. Stop by for a wash, with the only cost a donation that will go to the widow of police Lt. James Walker, who died in April 2020 of the coronavirus.

Sud’s, open seven days a week, is a little south of Rhawn Street. The entrance and exit are on Loney Street.

The site has been a car wash since 1959. Sud’s replaces Nu-Look.

There will be 15 people on staff, including John Scullion, who worked in maintenance at Nu-Look for 30 years.

Fordham and Caporale have overhauled the interior and exterior of the property. Customers can get a free vacuum before getting in one of two pay lanes, featuring a touchscreen, for a wash. Payment is by cash or credit card.

Drivers stay in their cars, which will be dry when they exit the tunnel, which Fordham described as “state of the art.” There will be no need for towel drying.

“It’s the best tunnel in Philadelphia. No expense was spared,” Fordham said. “We’re trying to take the car washing thing to the next level.”

The tunnel will be decorated with lights, depending on the holiday.

Nu-Look was busy, and Fordham expects to be even busier. Sud’s can accommodate up to 100 vehicles per hour.

Customers can pay for one wash at a time or purchase a membership that will save them money on future visits.

Safety is a priority at Sud’s, which also has environmentally friendly features such as recycled water.

Sud’s plans another location on Oxford Avenue in Fox Chase a year from now. ••
