2 face charges in Wissinoming store shootout

William McIntyre

The district attorney’s office has charged William McIntyre, 25, for his role in the Feb. 1 attempted robbery of an all-night variety store at 5500 Torresdale Ave. in Wissinoming. He was arrested on Feb. 23.

Co-defendant Resean Lewis, 25, was wounded during a shootout with a store employee, who was also shot and seriously wounded. Lewis has been in custody since his arrest shortly after the criminal incident.

McIntyre and Lewis are alleged to have entered the store at about 3:50 a.m. and to have announced a robbery. Both defendants are alleged to have been armed and to have pointed firearms at store employees. An exchange of gunfire ensued in which Lewis and a store employee, who was also armed, were shot and wounded. The defendants fled the scene, after which first responders were called and the wounded employee was transported to the hospital.

Less than one hour later, police were notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at Temple University Hospital. Officers identified the victim as Lewis using recovered surveillance footage of the robbery and fingerprint ID and arrested him.

Lewis was in violation of court supervision for a prior offense and wanted for arrest by police on a bench warrant since April 6, 2021.

Both suspects are charged with Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Conspiracy, VUFA 6105/6106/6108, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and related offenses.

“I want to thank Philadelphia Police investigators who worked this case until both defendants were taken off our streets. Small business owners and workers deserve to be safe while providing for their families, securing their futures, and serving and supporting their communities. But the freedom that comes with safety is just not guaranteed in a nation where guns outnumber people and state and federal government makes little effort to track and regulate them,” District Attorney Larry Krasner said. “My office and our law enforcement partners will continue to work with the small business community and neighborhood improvement districts toward public safety solutions that will keep Philadelphia on its current track of growth.” ••
