The Republican City Committee held a “Great American Family BBQ” on Saturday at Cannstatter’s, with Dr. Mehmet Oz among those in attendance.

Oz won the seven-way GOP primary for Senate by just 940 votes over runner-up Dave McCormick, with Philadelphia giving him a winning margin of more than 3,600.

The candidate is best known for The Dr. Oz Show, which ran on TV for 13 years before he entered the race.

In remarks to the crowd, he expressed support for natural gas exploration to produce good jobs and lower energy prices. He faulted reckless spending for the sky-high inflation rate. He said police officers need to be respected more, in part, to help in the recruitment process.

Oz faces Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, whom he criticized for supporting sanctuary cities and for being weak on criminal justice issues.

Others at the event included state Rep. Carrie DelRosso, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor; congressional candidate Aaron Bashir; legislative candidates Mark LaVelle, Marjilyn Murray and Sarah Marvin; state Rep. Martina White; state and city GOP chairmen Lawrence Tabas and Vince Fenerty, respectively; and Drew Murray, a candidate in next year’s race for City Council at large.

White, who is unopposed in the general election, called for the impeachment of District Attorney Larry Krasner and said she is happy that the recently passed state budget includes a big increase in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit.

DelRosso, of Allegheny County, voted in favor of a resolution to create a select committee to investigate Krasner’s policies, which could lead to his impeachment and ultimate removal from office.

“He’s not enforcing the law,” she said. ••
