Jimmy Binns, president of Holiday Meals for Heroes, on Wednesday welcomed families of local police officers who died in the line of duty to an annual Thanksgiving breakfast at Sunnybrook Golf Club, in Plymouth Meeting.

The breakfast honored the memory of about 40 fallen police heroes in the Philadelphia area and supported their surviving families, who took home full-course Thanksgiving dinners.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 98 sponsored the breakfast and Thanksgiving meals.

The program furnishes breakfast, meals and food deliveries to area families of fallen police officers at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Nov. 23 event was the 15th for the program.

Fallen Philadelphia police officers who had family members at the breakfast included Chuck Cassidy, Timothy Simpson, Brian Lorenzo, James O’Connor, Patrick McDonald, James Walker and John Pawlowski.

Binns paid tribute to the recently retired James Trainor, of Highway Patrol. The crowd sang “Happy Retirement,” as he blew out candles on a cake. Trainor co-founded Holiday Meals for Heroes with Binns.

The Christmas breakfast will take place on Dec. 23. Santa Claus will make an appearance. ••
