The Northeast Philadelphia Chinese Association on Saturday held an awards ceremony at 6401 Castor Ave. (at Levick Street), home of GP Senior Center.

Volunteer service awards went to Mingchu Pearl Huynh (NEPCA’s founder, president and project director), Yuexici Zhang, Rachel Gao, Yuheng Chen, Ashley Yang, Holam Zhang, Jin Yan Chen, Yue Xian Wu and Sharyn Solomon.

In addition, Rep. Jared Solomon (son of honoree Sharyn Solomon) presented a $30,000 state check to NEPCA for operational and programming support.

Solomon was joined by Rep. Anthony Bellmon, City Councilman Anthony Phillips and mayoral candidate Maria Quinones Sanchez, who represented the area in Council before resigning.

Huynh was honored for volunteering 3,952 hours.

“Pearl is a superstar,” Rep. Solomon said.

Solomon said Huynh represents the soul of the Northeast, crediting her with being a liaison for the delivery of vital resources such as translation services, COVID vaccination clinics and senior and youth programs. ••
