Police ID Mayfair Pizza shooting suspect

Police have identified the suspect in Wednesday night’s shooting at Mayfair Pizza as Kaleb Bridges, 19.

At 8:52 p.m., 15th Police District officers responded to the pizza shop, 7424 Frankford Ave., for a report of a robbery in progress and of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located two shooting victims. A 34-year-old woman was suffering from a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital by police. A 65-year-old woman was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdominal area and was transported to Jefferson Torresdale by medics.

During the robbery, the 34-year-old woman along with other individuals at the scene held the offender down until police arrived on the scene. Upon arrival, officers took the offender into custody and located a black handgun.

Police said the motive was robbery. Bridges is charged with aggravated assault, violation of the Uniform Firearms Act and related offenses.

City Councilman Mike Driscoll (D-6th dist.) issued the following statement regarding the shooting: “Last night’s shooting at Mayfair Pizza is the latest senseless act of violence against our residents and businesses. Sadly, injuries were suffered by innocent employees, and we wish them a speedy recovery. There could have been more harm and injuries suffered if it weren’t for the heroic acts by employees and patrons to apprehend the suspect and the quick response by our police. Philadelphia must deploy a full-court press to restore public safety. Additional law enforcement staffing, community police foot patrols, resources to provide security cameras and maximizing efforts with the town watch are all needed to combat the ongoing lawlessness. We cannot move our city forward if people do not feel safe in their neighborhoods and businesses.”
