Warehouse planned for McNulty Road

The Parkwood Civic Association last week listened to a proposal for a 145,000-square-foot warehouse at 14515 McNulty Road.

Members of the Mechanicsville Civic Association were also present, as the plan will more directly affect their neighborhood.

The Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation owns the property, which is located in the Byberry East Industrial Park.

Crow Holdings, a national commercial real estate developer, plans to build what it calls a “speculative” warehouse, designed to meet market demands.

The ground is zoned industrial, and Crow believes the project can be built “by right.” The building will be made of concrete. The property will be fenced, and there will be more than 1,000 tree plantings, along with a stormwater management plan. There will be no parking or loading near the trail.

Opponents hope to find a way to stop the project.

One man strongly suggested that the work be done by the building trades unions, or they will oppose construction.

Another man complained about noise, rats, lights and declining property values.

City Councilman Brian O’Neill said he will hold a separate meeting with Mechanicsville residents, and hopes someone from the Water Department will attend.

In other news from the March 15 meeting:

• Representatives of the VCA Knightswood Animal Hospital and the local Sunoco pledged to continue their efforts to oust homeless people from the area, blaming them for trash and other woes. They credited 8th Police District community relations officer Chris Hanejko with being responsive.

• Members of the nonprofit Friends of Poquessing Watershed spoke of their volunteer efforts in the areas of cleanups, tree plantings and education. More information is at friendsofpoquessing.org.

• Rich Lesinski is the new president of Parkwood Civic Association. ••
