Lawncrest Library, 6098 Rising Sun Ave., will close on Friday, Aug. 4, for renovations, as part of the city’s Rebuild program.
The community was invited to view the final design during a meeting last Wednesday night at the library. The evening included free pretzels and Mister Softee, balloon art and cornhole.
The nonprofit Community Ventures is managing the project.
The $3.4 million in renovations will include a new computer, teen and soft-seating area; glass-enclosed meeting rooms; kitchenette in the community room; ADA ramp to the front entrance and ADA restroom; HVAC, electric and plumbing; windows, furniture, flooring, lighting and paint throughout; and improved pathways and landscaping.
Lawncrest patrons are being encouraged to visit Bushrod, Fox Chase, Northeast Regional and Greater Olney libraries.
Patrick Isaac, program and sustainability manager at Community Ventures, said library staff will remove all material after the branch closes. Construction will begin in September, and will take about 10 months. Then, staff will return to stock the library, which should reopen in the fall of 2024.
“It will feel like a brand-new branch,” Isaac said.
Meanwhile, Community Ventures is managing the renovations of Lawncrest Recreation Center, which will close next spring and reopen in the summer of 2025. ••
