It was a big occasion for Giana Luna, whose debut single – Twilight Champagne – was released recently.
The single is available via streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube and for purchase on Bandcamp.
An animated music video is in the works for release early next year.
“I’m so excited,” Giana said, “to be able to have music out there with my name on it again. I’m so excited to get it out.”
Giana, 29, is a Tacony native and Our Lady of Consolation and St. Hubert graduate. Today, she lives in Pennypack.
In her early days, she performed at the Tacony Summer Concert Series and was a member of the choir, orchestra and theater department at St. Hubert. She later performed along the east coast from 2014-17 and hosted local open mic nights.
Since July 2021, Giana has worked at Howl at the Moon, a bar at 258 S. 15th St. in Center City, as part of a dueling piano show. The crowd can request anything they want to hear, and the band will play it. On stage, she sings and plays the drums and bass on tunes by artists such as Alanis Morissette, Vanessa Carlton and Cardi B.
You can find her performing on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. She said the tunes are 90 percent “sing-a-longable.”
“It’s the coolest job I could ever ask for,” she said.
In July 2022, Giana launched the Shoujo Sundae podcast with co-host Chika Supreme. They review shoujo anime series and movies episode by episode. All of the segments are ice cream puns, and they review the media through a lighthearted but critical lens.
The podcast, 60 to 90 minutes long, is released every other Sunday. It’s available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Audible.
“It’s really fun,” she said.
As for her music, how does the singer-songwriter describe her sound?
“I would categorize it as pop-folk,” she said. “The lyrics are very honest. Songwriting is like a journaling process for me.”
While Giana gets her fill of performing other artists’ songs at Howl at the Moon, she takes great pride and satisfaction in writing her own music and pursuing an independent career. She’s hoping the recent release of Twilight Champagne will be the start of something big.
“I’m sitting on 30 to 40 songs that I would like to get out into the world,” she said. “I’m really hoping to release a full debut album before 2025.” ••
