City Councilman Brian O’Neill and the city Department of Parks and Recreation last week cut the ribbon on renovations to Eileen Fitzpatrick Playground, 12501 Torrey Road.

At the Fitzpatrick event, attended by longtime site supervisor Lisa Lenke and interim parks and rec commissioner Orlando Rendon, the crowd enjoyed a new nature-inspired playground and new shade trees. Fitzpatrick also has a new sprayground, doors, windows, tables, benches and a flex court for soccer and pickleball.

“The playground seems and feels twice as big,” said O’Neill, who said the next step is to fix up the basketball courts. ••
