Capt. Marques Newsome, commander of the 15th Police District, said last week he is cracking down on boom parties.
Newsome attended the 15th Police District Advisory Council meeting and was responding to a question by a Palmyra man who said the loud noise travels across the Delaware River and can be heard by New Jersey residents.
The man suggested that police seize the equipment of the people making all the noise.
Newsome said he visited the area near the Princeton Avenue boat ramp before the meeting and said fines, arrests and forfeiture of equipment are possible penalties. He also plans to lock the gates early.
Newsome is responding to complaints from both sides of the river about loud music, drinking and illegal swimming by children.

• Northwood Civic Association will hold its third annual Cena en Blanc on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 5-10 p.m., in Northwood Park, at Castor Avenue and Arrott Street. The theme will be The Great Gatsby. Guests are required to wear all white clothing. There will be a DJ, dancing, raffles, food trucks and an appearance by the 15th Police District. Guests can also bring their own food. The cost is $20 per couple, $39 per family or $50 for parties over six.
• The district attorney’s office’s private criminal complaint unit is located at 1425 Arch St., fourth floor. Complaints can be filed for misdemeanors. A protection from abuse order (or restraining order) is for those people who want to prevent abuse from a family member, resident of the same household or current or former partners. • There were complaints of Asians walking onto people’s patios to take recycling bottles from buckets and tossing the caps on the ground. One woman said she asked an elderly lady to get off her property, and the lady replied, “F— you.” Local businessman Keith Xiao agreed to put out flyers discouraging people from taking recyclables off people’s porches.
