There were three National Night Out celebrations on Tuesday in the Northeast.
The Tacony Holmesburg Town Watch gathered at Russo Playground, at Torresdale and Cottman avenues. Among those in attendance were Inspector Frank Bachmayer, commander of the Northeast Police Division; Capt. Marques Newsome, commander of the 15th Police District; City Councilman Mike Driscoll; and state Rep. Pat Gallagher. The event included music and vendors.
The 8th Police District Advisory Council moved its celebration inside due to the threat of rain. Kids received school backpacks, and the event featured face painting, cake, soft pretzels, snacks, books and free raffles for skateboards, bikes and scooters.
The 15th PDAC held its celebration in the parking lot of the ShopRite at 5597 Tulip St., and awarded certificates to various people and groups in the community. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel was on hand, along with Driscoll, Gallagher, city elections commissioner Seth Bluestein and state Senate candidate Joe Picozzi, who was also at the Russo Playground event. The office of state Rep. Jason Dawkins had a table, dishing out water ice. The offices of Reps. Joe Hohenstein and Jared Solomon also had tables. The night included face painting, pretzels and a DJ.
The celebration for the 2nd and 7th police districts, organized by state Sen. Jimmy Dillonm, was postponed due to the threat of rain. It will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 6-8 p.m. in the school yard of Fox Chase Elementary School, 500 Rhawn St. ••
