The Drexel Dragons are heading into the 2024-25 basketball season with confidence.

They beat Chestnut Hill 80-50 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in their last warm-up game.

It was their final practice game before the season officially began, and if this game is any sign, Drexel fans have a lot to look forward to.

Here’s a closer look at the highlights and what’s coming up for the Dragons this season.

The game started pretty close, with Drexel leading by only five points at halftime.

But in the second half, the Dragons turned up the heat and shot an impressive 60% from the field.

Here’s what made the difference:

  • Kobe MaGee stepped up big time in the second half, scoring 15 of his 19 points. MaGee went 7-for-13 overall, sinking three three-pointers to help Drexel pull away.
  • Yame Butler wasn’t far behind, adding 15 points and proving he’s ready for the season.
  • Jason Drake and Victor Panov also chipped in with 12 and 11 points each.

Drexel’s defense was strong, holding Chestnut Hill to just 30% shooting and limiting them to 3-for-18 from three-point range.

The Dragons also controlled the boards, outrebounding Chestnut Hill by 20.

Alejandro Cybak led Chestnut Hill with 11 points, but his efforts weren’t enough to challenge Drexel’s well-rounded performance.

Next, Drexel opens its season at home against Georgian Court on Monday at 6 p.m., followed by a home game against Colgate on Saturday, November 9.

For fans who can’t make it to every game, there’s great news: Drexel has four nationally televised games on CBS Sports Network this season.

Drexel will be in the national spotlight as part of the CAA’s 27-game broadcast package with CBS.

This new coverage is the biggest ever for the CAA, with 29 games airing across CBS and CBS Sports Network.

So, when can you catch the Dragons on TV?

Here’s the schedule:

  • January 20: Drexel vs. Hofstra (moved from January 18)—this match will be at the DAC on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
  • February 1: Drexel at Towson—a road game against a longtime rival.
  • February 8: Drexel vs. UNCW—a big home game with conference implications.
  • February 22: Drexel vs. Charleston—the defending CAA champs come to the DAC.

And the excitement doesn’t stop with these games!

CBS Sports Network will also show the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship, with the semifinals on March 10 and the final on March 11.

These games will be live from the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., leading right into CBS’ coverage of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

If they go far in the tournament, CBS Sports Network coverage could give Drexel valuable exposure.

So grab your popcorn, set your DVR, and get ready to cheer on the Dragons this season—whether you’re at the DAC or watching from home.

Drexel is primed for a season filled with big plays, tough competition, and plenty of highlights.
