One dead in alleged DUI crash in Holmesburg

Philadelphia police have arrested a Levittown man whose alleged drunk-driving caused a fatal crash in Holmesburg on Jan. 21.

Jorge Luna, 22, was behind the wheel of a 2003 GMC Envoy at about 1:35 a.m. on the 7300 block of Milnor St. when he allegedly passed another vehicle at a high rate of speed, lost control and crashed into a set of concrete stairs outside an industrial building. A front seat passenger in Luna’s vehicle suffered undisclosed injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified him as Julio Menchaca-Rodriguez, 22, of the 2500 block of Knights Road.

A rear-seat passenger suffered several broken bones in his left arm, left leg and pelvis. His identity was not released. Luna suffered “minor bumps and bruises,” police said. Both survivors were treated at Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus.

Luna was later charged with homicide by vehicle, driving while under the influence and related offenses. He is imprisoned in lieu of $250,000 bail. ••
