Northeast Philadelphia experienced two unrelated shootings on Monday, December 22, 2025, beginning with gunfire inside a busy transit hub in the morning and followed hours later by a domestic shooting inside a home, according to police.
The first incident occurred on Monday at 8:51 a.m. inside the Frankford Transportation Center in the Frankford section of the city. SEPTA police responded to reports of a fight in the lobby of the transit center, located at 5223 Frankford Avenue. When officers arrived, they found two men who had both been shot.
SEPTA officials said the incident began as a physical altercation between the two men. During the fight, one man produced a firearm and shot the other man in the shoulder. The confrontation continued as the two struggled over the weapon, and the gun discharged a second time, striking the original shooter in the hand. Both men were transported from the scene to nearby hospitals. SEPTA police took one man to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and the other to Temple University Hospital. Authorities said both men were in stable condition and are currently in police custody. No charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
SEPTA spokesperson John Golden confirmed the sequence of events, and the second gunshot occurred during the struggle over the firearm. Officials also acknowledged that the shooting happened on the same block and around the same time of morning as a November incident in which another man was shot in the leg near the Frankford Transportation Center.
Later that evening, a second shooting was reported inside a home on the 1300 block of Passmore Street in Northeast Philadelphia. Philadelphia police responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. and found a 21-year-old woman inside a second-floor bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said the woman was conscious and able to speak when officers arrived. She was taken to the hospital, where she was listed in critical condition and undergoing surgery.
Investigators determined that the woman was shot by her 21-year-old boyfriend, who lived with her in the home. Surveillance video captured the man fleeing the residence and running eastbound on Passmore Street. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said authorities know the suspect’s identity and his last known address, though his name has not been publicly released. The suspect was last seen wearing a jacket or hooded sweatshirt, pants, sneakers, and a backpack. Police continue to search for him and are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Philadelphia police.
Authorities also provided information for individuals experiencing domestic violence, directing them to the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), online at www.thehotline.org, or by texting LOVEIS to 22522. Additional resources are available for people and communities affected by gun violence in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia police and SEPTA police are continuing their investigations into both incidents. Anyone with information related to either case is urged to contact Philadelphia police by calling or texting 215-686-TIPS (8477) or by submitting an anonymous tip online.
