24 cars torched in Somerton

Police are investigating a deliberately set fire that raced through 24 empty cars in Somerton early Tuesday.

The fire marshal’s office found the cause of the blaze to be incendiary. The fire occurred on the property of a metal-fabricating company on the 10000 block of Sandmeyer Lane, Executive Fire Chief Richard Davison said Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters got the call to go to Rhoads Industries at 3:48 a.m. Tuesday, Davison said. He said the fire was under control by 4:12 a.m. No one was injured, he said.

The Arson Task Force is investigating, police said.

Sandmeyer Lane intersects Red Lion Road and curves next to the old Island Green golf course and ends in a cul-de-sac. ••
