Arrest in beating of Wissinoming man

A man wanted in the brutal beating of a Wissinoming resident was arrested in Frankford last Thursday.

James Bradley, 28, was taken into custody on the 1600 block of Foulkrod St., police said. He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to online court records.

Police had obtained a warrant for Bradley’s arrest on Sept. 19. He is accused of beating a resident of the 1700 block Kennedy St. so badly on Sept. 11 that the man had to be taken to a hospital, Lt. Mark Overwise said last week.

Bradley allegedly smashed his victim’s face into a wall after beating him on his head and body, police said.

The arrest came a week after neighbors who live on and around the 1700 block of Kennedy St. complained to police about Bradley and a family that also lived in the quiet, ethnically diverse section that’s almost surrounded by Wissinoming Park and nearby cemeteries.

Neighborhood disputes can involve one neighbor complaining about another, Overwise said in an interview, but when an officer gets a half-dozen or so complaints, he knows there’s a real problem.

At a meeting, 20 people complained about Bradley and a family that lived on Kennedy Street. On Sept. 14, the day after that meeting, that family moved out.

“The roaches have scattered,” one neighbor said.

Overwise said some private criminal complaints involving a woman who has not been charged will be heard in October.

A preliminary hearing and arraignment for Bradley are scheduled for Oct. 9 in the Criminal Justice Center, 13th and Filbert streets.
