Man charged in Tackawanna Street killing

Zaire Small was charged with murder on Saturday in connection with a fatal shooting Friday morning on the 5400 block of Tackawanna Street in the Lower Northeast.

A Lower Northeast man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting Friday morning on the 5400 block of Tackawanna Street.

Zaire Small, 33, who lives on the block where the shooting happened, surrendered to authorities Saturday evening at police headquarters on Race Street. He is accused of killing Otto Wells, 35, also of the 5400 block of Tackawanna Street.

Officers responded to the block around 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, and found Wells suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso and arm, according to police. He was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he died just after 11 a.m., authorities said.

Small is being held without bail at Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility, according to court records. He was also charged with weapons violations and drug offenses. ••
