Police investigating violent Whitaker Avenue armed robbery

Authorities say a man pulled out a gun and knocked an employee down during a robbery at a corner store.

Police are looking for a man who was involved in a violent armed robbery Saturday, June 22, in the Lower Northeast.

The suspect entered Elsy’s Market, 5144 Whitaker Ave., just before 8 p.m. and walked around for several minutes before pulling out a black handgun, authorities said.

Police said he demanded money and forced a 43-year-old employee to the register. The man struggled with the suspect over the gun, and eventually, the suspect knocked the employee down, according to authorities.
