Hundreds of football fans came out last week to enjoy the first night of the NFL Draft along the 3500 block of Ryan Ave.

The Mayfair Business Improvement District sponsored the event, which featured a giant screen showing ESPN’s coverage of the draft, which was held at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Businesses that took part include the Grey Lodge Pub, Chickie’s & Pete’s, Factory Donuts, Rita’s Water Ice, GoPuff and Art History 101.

Sharon Owens, a State Farm agent with an office at 7034 Frankford Ave., handed out miniatures footballs.

Stein Your Florist Co. designed an Eagles bouquet.

Former Eagles defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, now a WIP personality, signed autographs and posed for pictures. WIP also gave people a chance to spin a wheel for prizes.

The evening also included a football toss game and face-painting.

Fans booed when the draft coverage started, as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was joined on stage by Cowboys tight end Jason Witten and retired quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach.

Fans also did not get a chance to cheer at the end of the night, when the Super Bowl-champion Eagles traded the 32nd overall pick to the Baltimore Ravens. ••
