Peter D. Chapla has been appointed principal at Father Judge High School, effective June 4.

Chapla received his undergraduate degree from Penn State and a master’s in secondary education and a superintendent letter of eligibility from the University of Scranton. He is presently pursuing a doctorate in education at Immaculata University.

Chapla is a Persian Gulf War veteran who served as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps for more than a decade. He has more than 16 years of administrative experience in the education field as a middle school principal, a high school principal and an assistant superintendent.

Chapla will replace Bill Schilling, a 1976 Judge graduate who was wooed last year from New Foundations Charter High School, where he was principal for seven years.

Schilling’s tenure did not last a year. On March 28, school president Brian King wrote a letter to the Judge community, explaining that Schilling’s last day would be April 4. The letter said Schilling had a long commute and would be pursuing a position closer to his Delaware home.

The Rev. Jack Kolodziej is serving as interim principal until Chapla arrives. ••
