U.S. Attorney William McSwain announced that Justin O’Brien, 33, was sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison and three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $7,244 in restitution by U.S. District Court Judge Nitza I. Alejandro-Quinones for armed bank robbery.
In December, O’Brien pleaded guilty to committing an armed bank robbery in March 2019, taking $1,260 from an employee of Firstrust Bank in Bryn Mawr.
As part of the plea agreement, O’Brien also acknowledged his guilt for five other robberies: the Oct. 29, 2018 robbery of Tompkins VIST Bank, 8000 Verree Road, resulting in a loss of about $1,880; the Nov. 9, 2018 robbery of M&T Bank, 7121 Frankford Ave., resulting in a loss of about $451; the March 1, 2019 armed robbery of Firstrust Bank, 9309 Krewstown Road, resulting in a loss of about $975; the March 8, 2019 armed robbery of Tompkins VIST Bank, Radnor Township, resulting in a loss of about $600; and the March 18, 2019 robbery of a PNC Bank on Market Street, resulting in a loss of about $2,078.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Lower Merion Township, Philadelphia and Radnor Township police departments. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski. ••
