Trump campaign opens office in Holmesburg

The Republican Party of Pennsylvania on Tuesday opened a campaign office in Holmesburg for former President Donald Trump.

First-term U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt, of Texas, was the guest at the grand opening at 8002 Frankford Ave., the former home of an optician’s office.

In remarks to the crowd inside, Hunt criticized President Joe Biden for rising inflation and energy prices and blamed him for allowing 11 million illegal immigrants to cross the southern border.

“We cannot have four more years of Biden and (Vice President Kamala) Harris,” he said.

Outside, answering questions from reporters, he said he’s happy voters will be able to compare Trump’s presidency to Biden’s.

“We were better off then than now,” he said.

Lawrence Tabas, the state party chairman, linked Democrats to the defund-the-police movement and said Biden’s open-border policy is leading to an influx of deadly fentanyl. Gasoline and food prices have risen under Biden, Tabas said.

“Bidenomics has been a failure,” he said.

Others in attendance included Vince Fenerty, chairman of the Republican Party of Philadelphia; Aaron Bashir, Republican candidate in the 2nd Congressional District; Joe Picozzi, Republican candidate in the 5th Senatorial District; Alfe Goodwin, Republican candidate in the 5th Congressional District; Chris Vogler, Republican leader of the 55th Ward; and Jeff Bartos, a former candidate for lieutenant governor and U.S. Senate.

A pop-up Trump Store was open across the street.

After leaving the new office, Hunt headed to the Cigar Code, 939 N. Delaware Ave., for a discussion about the importance of the black vote – particularly black males – with Florida Rep. Byron Donalds and former NBC Sunday Night Football sideline reporter Michele Tafoya. ••
