Lawncrest civic group votes on three proposed zoning changes

Members of the Lawncrest Community Association last week listened to a crime report from 2nd Police District Sgt. Matthew Lowe and three proposed zoning changes.

Neighbors rejected a proposal for a day care operator in a twin home at 6145 Bingham St. (at Devereaux Avenue) to increase the number of kids she cares for from six to 12. Just three people voted in favor of the plan. A Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing is set for Nov. 15.

In a unanimous show of hands, residents also opposed a plan to open a daycare for 12 kids at 5978 Reach St. (at Comly Street). By law, an individual can care for up to six kids in a home, but needs a special exception to care for 12. LCA member opposed the plan because of parking issues and the fact that it would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A zoning hearing is scheduled for Nov. 29.

The LCA overwhelmingly approved a garage on a property at 510 E. Godfrey Ave., with provisos that the garage not be used for commercial, rental or residential use. A hearing will take place on Nov. 1.
