Motorist runs down NE crossing guard

A Northeast crossing guard is recovering from broken bones and other injuries after a motorist intentionally ran her down in an apparent episode of road rage, police said.

On Sept. 21 at about 8:12 a.m., the 56-year-old victim was on her assigned corner at Devereaux and Summerdale avenues in Oxford Circle when she stopped traffic to help a child across the street. Ignoring her command, an unidentified motorist in a silver car turned from Devereaux onto Summerdale and almost struck the child.

The crossing guard yelled at the driver, who shifted into reverse, drove onto a median strip and struck the guard, knocking her to the ground. The motorist fled the area southbound on Summerdale.

The crossing guard suffered injuries to her right forearm, hand, left knee and left shoulder. Paramedics took her to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus in stable condition.

The driver was described as black with a light complexion, 20 to 30 years old, with a white or gray baseball cap. The make and model of the car are unknown. ••
