Man killed in Blvd. crash

A 21-year-old Philadelphia man was killed Sunday afternoon in a Roosevelt Boulevard traffic accident.

The identity of the man, who police said was not from the Northeast, was not released pending notification of family, said Officer Christine O’Brien, a police department spokeswoman.

The dead man was a passenger in a 1997 Ford Expedition that was seen speeding down the Boulevard’s southbound inner drive at about 3:05 p.m., O’Brien said. The driver was making many abrupt lane changes and, just south of Welsh Road, hit the back of a Nissan that was in the left lane.

After the collision, the Ford jumped the curb onto the grassy median and flipped over several times before coming to a rest. The 21-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle as it flipped over. He was pronounced dead at the scene, O’Brien said.

The driver was critically injured and was taken to Aria Health’s Torresdale campus. Another passenger was not hurt. The Nissan’s driver, an 18-year-old man, was not injured. ••
