2nd District cops provide crime update

Updates included illegal truck parking complaints and increased community outreach.

Capt. Robert Zaffino, acting 2nd Police District commander, joined community relations officer Mark Mroz at last week’s Lawncrest Community Association meeting.

Zaffino is filling in for Capt. Thomas McLean, who is on a 10-week assignment at the FBI.

The acting captain promised to address a complaint of illegal truck parking. He has also been promoting officer outreach to the community and scheduling more foot beats.

The district made an arrest after a report of gunfire on the 6900 block of Rising Sun Ave. late on the evening of July 13.

One challenge remains cracking down on tire thefts, many from Honda Accord sport models.

The 2nd Police District will take part in National Night Out anti-crime activities.

A kickoff rally is set for Monday Aug. 6, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Target parking lot, 7400 Bustleton Ave. There will be music, entertainment, refreshments and giveaways.

The 2nd and 7th police districts will team for a leisurely bicycle ride on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 5:30 p.m. outside Fox Chase Elementary School, 500 Rhawn St. Riders will be entered in a raffle for a new bike. National Night Out activities start at 6 p.m.
