An 8th Police District officer shot a man who was holding a gun and arguing with someone else in Pennypack Woods.
One man is hospitalized in stable condition after being shot by an 8th Police District officer, authorities said.
Officer Andrew Jericho, a 22-year veteran, and a partner responded to a call concerning a person with a gun on the 8700 block of Crispin Street. Patrick McGuinn, a 66-year-old while male, wielded a firearm on his front porch and was in an argument with another man, police said.
As the two officers approached, they heard McGuinn say, “I’m not going to jail, kill me,” and, “You’re going to have to kill me.”
The two officers demanded McGuinn drop his weapon several times after he pointed the firearm at his head and chest and at the two officers. Police said he did not comply with their commands and stated, “Shoot me, shoot me, shoot me between the eyes.”
McGuinn pointed his gun at Officer Jericho again, and Officer Jericho shot him one time in the left thigh, police said.
McGuinn was taken into custody and transported to Jefferson Frankford Hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot wound and a broken femur. Police say his condition is stable. He is charged with aggravated assault, VUFA, simple assault and related offenses.
There were no injuries to civilians or police in relation to the incident. McGuinn’s firearm was recovered at the scene.
Police say this information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues. ••
