Off-duty police officer dies in Holme Avenue crash

An off-duty Philadelphia police officer died early Saturday morning after his car veered off Holme Avenue and hit a tree, according to authorities.

Alexis Montanez, 38, of the 6300 block of Langdon Street in Oxford Circle, was driving west on the 2900 block of Holme Avenue around 3:30 a.m. when he lost control of his car, police said. He died at the scene.

Montanez was a 17-year veteran of the police department who was most recently assigned to the 9th Police District. ••
