Two people were killed and four others injured early Sunday morning in a Tacony crash, and a driver involved in the incident is now facing serious charges.
It occurred around 2:45 a.m. at Cottman and Torresdale avenues when a Chevy Malibu blew through a red light at a high rate of speed and hit a Nissan Maxima going westbound on Cottman, according to police.Â
Three of the four women in the Nissan were ejected from the vehicle, and Ciara Parker, 28, of Northwest Philadelphia, a passenger in the car, died at the scene, authorities said.Â
A 30-year-old woman was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition with severe head trauma and brain bleeding, police said. The 28-year-old driver suffered a fractured back and other injuries, and a 29-year-old woman in the car had a broken hip and leg.
Rashaan Cole, 18, of North Philadelphia, a passenger in the Chevy, was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:43 a.m, according to authorities.
His uncle, Nehamiah Carstarphen, 27, also of North Philadelphia, who suffered a broken arm, was driving the sedan. Carstarphen was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, DUI and related charges, police said. ••
