An off-duty Philadelphia police officer was arrested and charged with drunken driving following a crash Feb. 16 in the northbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard near Bustleton Avenue, authorities said.
John Sears, a 13-year veteran of the force, was sitting in the driver’s seat of his overturned vehicle when officers arrived at the scene at 7 p.m. Police also assisted the driver and a passenger in a second car that had been hit by Sears’s vehicle.
Sears was taken to Police Headquarters, where he registered over the legal alcohol limit for on a breathalyzer test, authorities said.
Joseph Kelly, Sears’s attorney, declined to comment on the case.
Sears, 41, a Northeast Philly resident currently assigned to the department’s safety office, was released following his arrest pending future court proceedings. It’s his first DUI offense, according to court records. ••
