Crime log: July 22, 2020

The Northeast Times provides an overview of crimes reported to the four police districts in the Northeast. The details are based on reports compiled by the Northeast Detectives division of the Philadelphia Police Department.

July 6 through 19

As reported by Northeast Detectives. Does not include homicides, sexual assaults, narcotics offenses or other specific crimes investigated by special police units. All locations listed by block, not by exact address.

2nd Police District

Three robberies took place on the street at 1400 Kerper St. (July 10) with a handgun, 1700 Faunce St. (July 9) and 7300 Rising Sun Ave. (July 18).

There were seven aggravated assaults. Assaults took place on the street at 2600 Cottman Ave. (July 8) with a handgun, 900 Anchor St. (July 7), 1200 Gilham St. (July 10) and 600 Alcott St. (July 19). Domestic assaults took place at private residences at 7800 Dungan Road (July 7) and 5900 Frontenac St. (July 8), and another took place at an apartment house at 7900 Langdon St. (July 19).

There were seven burglaries, which took place at private residences at 700 Longshore Ave. (July 12) and 7000 Horrocks St. (July 11), a restaurant at 7300 Oxford Ave. (July 6), a cleaner/tailor/Laundromat at 7300 Oxford Ave. (July 6), a food store at 1800 Cottman Ave. (July 18), an athletic field/playground at 1200 E. Cheltenham Ave. (July 15) and an unlisted location at 1200 Tyson Ave. (July 8). 

There were 39 thefts, which targeted 18 vehicles (including a stolen car phone and five stolen vehicle tags), 13 businesses, five street thefts, a private residence, a bicycle and a fire house. One arrest was made.

7th Police District

There were no reported robberies.

There were five aggravated assaults. Two incidents with handguns took place on the street at 2100 Red Lion Road (July 10) and 11500 Roosevelt Blvd. (July 16), and another incident with another weapon happened at 9800 Bustleton Ave. (July 16). Two domestic assaults happened at an apartment house at 2200 Strahle St. on July 10 and 11.

There were five burglaries and one attempt. Private residences were burglarized at 9500 Alton St. (July 10) and 700 Benson St. (July 11) and an attempt took place at 800 Stanwood St. (July 11). Other burglaries took place at an apartment house at 8200 Pine Road (Juny 17), a gas station at 9900 Roosevelt Blvd. (July 10) and a chain retail location at 1600 Grant Ave. (July 18).

There were 23 thefts, which targeted 10 businesses, nine vehicles (including two stolen vehicle tags), two private residences, a hotel/motel and a U.S. government office.

8th Police District

There were four robberies. Jonathan Steward, 35, was arrested July 16 following the robbery of a vehicle parked at 9300 Roosevelt Blvd. Robberies on the street happened at 3600 W. Crown Ave. (July 14), the intersection of Blue Grass Road and Roosevelt Boulevard (July 10) and an unlisted location at 9400 Roosevelt Blvd. (July 12).

There were seven aggravated assaults. Hisham Hmidan-Jaber, 18, was arrested July 16 following two assaults on the street at 4100 Chalfont Drive. Assaults on the street happened at 2600 Welsh Road (July 15) with a handgun, 8300 State Road (July 7) and 3500 Arthur Road (July 13) that both involved weapons, and a domestic assault at 3600 Morrell Ave. (July 13). A domestic assault took place at an apartment house at 64200 Delaire Landing Road on July 10. 

There was a burglary attempt at an apartment house at 9400 Kirkwood Road on July 7.

There were 34 thefts that targeted 22 vehicles (including a stolen car phone and three stolen vehicle tags), six businesses, two private residences, two apartment houses and two pedestrians. Six arrests were made. In addition, four vehicles were reported stolen, and three were recovered.

15th Police District

There were five robberies. Ryan Dennis, 45, was arrested July 13 following a robbery on the street at 1500 Pratt St. involving a knife. Robberies on the street happened at 4400 Hedge St. (July 15) and 1600 Pratt St. (July 13), both of which involved handguns, and at 1500 Pratt St. (July 16), which involved a weapon. A chain retail store at 4200 Frankford Ave. was robbed July 14.

There were 25 aggravated assaults, which resulted in seven arrests. Assaults on the street included domestic assaults at 1800 Wilmot St. (July 9), 2900 Hale St. (July 14) and the intersection of Orthordox and Mulberry streets (July 8); with handguns happened at 2100 Scattergood St. (July 14), 1800 Wilmot St. (July 15, Yvonne Bass, 57, Cartina Copeland, 22, and Warren Knight, 63), the intersection of Bridge Street and Torresdale Avenue (July 17) and 4500 Castor Ave. (July 17); two incidents with knives that happened at 5100 Frankford Ave. (July 6) and 4600 Frankford Ave. (July 16); assaults with other weapons that happened at 3300 Englewood St. (July 9), 4700 James St. (July 11), 1700 Brill St. (July 12), the intersection of Hegerman Street and East Cheltenham Avenue (July 17) and 4700 Tacony St. (July 18); and an assault with no weapons at 1300 Sellers St. (July 8). Assaults at private residences included a domestic assault at 4200 Romain St. (July 8), three assaults with handguns at 4200 Roosevelt Blvd. (July 13), assaults with another weapon at 4300 E. Wingohocking St. (July 7), 3600 Hartel Ave. (July 14, Rachael E. Costello, 38) and 4600 Comly St. (July 15, Robert Stringer, 69). Other assaults took place at apartment houses at 4500 Loring St. (July 6, Jocelyn Madden, 48) and 4400 Sheffield Ave. (July 7, Megan A. Tuffy, 28), both of which involved knives, and at a restaurant at 6400 Frankford Ave. (July 11). 

There were 10 burglaries, which resulted in three arrests. Thomas Rachine, 22, was arrested July 18 following the burglary of a private residence at 2800 St. Vincent St., Ayaz Alam, 36, was arrested July 6 following the burglary of a video store at 4800 James St. and Daeshaun Harper, 19, was arrested July 12 following an incident at a public school at 4800 Rhawn St. Other burglaries targeted private residences at 1800 Van Kirk St. (July 13), 5000 Penn St. (July 12), 5000 Hawthorne St. (July 6) and 1800 Wakeling St. (July 18); apartment houses at 3400 Sheffield Ave. (July 19) and 3500 Englewood St. (July 19); a barber shop/beauty salon at 2800 Cottman Ave. (July 6).

There were 55 thefts, which targeted 26 vehicles (including a stolen car phone and 14 stolen vehicle tags), 11 street thefts, nine businesses, six private residences and three bicycles. Four people were arrested. ••
