Oxford Circle resident Alex Benabe, better known as Destroy_215 to his 224,000 Twitch followers, raised $10,000 via video game live streams to buy toys for Toys for Tots.
This is Benabe’s second consecutive year buying toys for the cause, doubling the amount of money he raised by playing Fortnite last year. This year he streamed Call of Duty. Benabe and his family went on a shopping spree at Five Below this weekend before shipping the toys out.
Last year the campaign collected more than 53,000 toys that were distributed to 44,000 children. The campaign kicked off its 25th year this November at Avenue Chiropractic, 6233 Frankford Ave.
“I love to be able to use platform and community to be a blessing to others. We were able to raise $10,800 in only 20 hours,” Benabe said.
