Graveyard tour
On Saturday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m., the History Committee of All Saints’ Church, Torresdale, along with members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution, are having an unveiling ceremony of the gravestone of Lt. Benjamin Walton, the first recorded burial of the church in 1786, followed by a graveyard tour of other members of the Walton family, who descend from the first settlers in Byberry Township. Wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella in case of rain. Parking is available in the parking lot at the rear of the church, entrance via Eden Street. The tour will begin inside the church. Donate Halloween costumes
Anthony “Stitch” Picariello is helping to organize the eighth annual Halloween Costumes for Cancer drive. New Halloween costumes will be accepted for donation to the oncology floor at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia so the kids can pick them out and trick or treat at the hospital. Register for Crusader Classic
The 19th Annual Father Judge Crusader Classic 5K will take place on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 9 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the Firefighter Lt. Robert Neary Scholarship Fund at Father Judge. Neary, class of 1970, died in 2012 when the roof of a Kensington furniture store collapsed on him as he monitored the scene at a fire at an abandoned warehouse.
The entry fee is $30. The cost is $15 for youths 18 and under. Race-day registration will take place in the Father Judge school yard beginning at 7:30 a.m. Event T-shirts will be provided to all who pre-register (and to race-day registrants while supplies last).
The race will begin at the bandshell in Pennypack Park and continue along the banks of the Pennypack Creek and finish with a lap around the Father Judge track (behind the school). Medals will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.

The St. Hubert Alumnae Association is holding its first 5K Run – 1 Mile Family Walk on Saturday, Sept. 24, in Pennypack Park. The run and walk will start and finish in the “Little City” portion of the park, on Rhawn Street near Holmehurst Avenue. Time for a change
Republican congressional candidate Aaron Bashir said it’s time for a change after more than 70 years of “disastrous” Democratic control of Philadelphia. Bashir, who is challenging Rep. Brendan Boyle, said the Northeast is suffering from crimes such as homicides, catalytic converter thefts, carjackings, illegal drug use, inflation and deteriorating quality of life. So far, there have been 388 homicides this year. Bashir blames the crime on the defund the police policies of some Democrats. ••

The Congressional Management Foundation announced Annamarie Feeney as one of two winners of its Democracy Awards for Staff Lifetime Achievement. Rush gets big honor
The U.S. Department of Education announced that the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush High School, 11081 Knights Road, has been awarded the National Blue Ribbon School designation, for exemplary high performing, based on all student scores, student subgroup scores and graduation rates.
“Being a Blue Ribbon-designated school is an honor and should be a point of pride for the principal, teachers, students and their families at the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush,” said Tony B. Watlington Sr., superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia. “I am elated to celebrate the hard work of everyone at the school. Rush is a shining example of the level of excellence that is possible for every School District of Philadelphia school.”

Support for Krasner
Some Democrats and left-wing organizations gathered to support District Attorney Larry Krasner against an effort to impeach him in the state House of Representatives.
Al Schmidt, president and CEO of the Committee of Seventy, said, “Our representative democracy is built on the foundation that the people should elect who represents them in government. That means honoring the results of a free and fair election is a sacred responsibility, especially for those who may have preferred a different outcome. There is no doubt that Larry Krasner was elected district attorney by the voters of Philadelphia. Any effort to remove him from that elected position is at odds with the will of the voters. The Committee of Seventy stands with our fellow civic leaders in defense of our democracy.”

White votes to hold Krasner in contempt
Rep. Martina White (R-170th dist.) issued the following statement after the state House of Representatives voted to hold District Attorney Larry Krasner in contempt of the House by a vote of 162-38:
“As Philadelphia, my home city, is experiencing another year of historic crime and violence, District Attorney Larry Krasner has sought to blame everyone for the city’s problems but himself. My city’s streets are unsafe and there seemingly are no consequences for those who violate the law, despite the best efforts of law enforcement to lock up dangerous criminals. Today’s vote to hold Krasner in contempt shows a significant bipartisan majority of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives stands for law and order and puts a check on the district attorney’s above-the-law attitude. It is the first, and a necessary, step in ensuring Larry Krasner can no longer let his brand of woke politics wreak havoc on Philadelphians who just want to live in safe communities.”
Krasner has refused to accept a subpoena from a House committee investigating him and his office. ••

As the evening of Bella and Brandon’s wedding unfolds, chaos will ensue, and the wedding guests will be enlisted to help solve (or add to) the problems that arise in slapstick and physical comedy.
This is a three-hour interactive performance, and attendees are active participants and characters in the performance acting as “wedding guests.” The performance has four parts: Cocktail Reception, Ceremony, Dinner and Dancing/Farewell.
Open bar will be available prior to dinner. A cash bar will be available after dinner. Guests are requested to wear black tie, old wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, business attire or festive/creative costumes.
