Thunder Mug Café & Market last week celebrated its grand opening at 6940 Torresdale Ave.

Tacony Community Development Corporation executive director Xhulio Binjaku and corridor manager Amarynth Ruch were among those on hand to welcome the new coffee shop. Owner Lizette Apy also has a shop on Ridge Avenue in East Falls.

The shop is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. It features outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seating, with lots of artwork on the walls.

The menu includes various coffees; hot and iced tea; croissants, beignets; bagels; fruits; and vegetables.

The Rev. Evelyn Barnes, of Tacony Baptist Church, offered a prayer and blessed the shop.

City Councilman Mike Driscoll was in attendance, along with staffers for state Reps. Joe Hohenstein and Pat Gallagher; Tacony Civic Association president Joe Sannutti; Tacony CDC board member and business owner Georgeanne Labovitz; and Chris Hess, who worked with Apy as part of Community College of Philadelphia’s Power Up Your Business.

Dustbin Massachusetts and G.T. Arpe provided musical entertainment. Balloons with Pleasure donated the decorations.
