Mayfair man arrested in firebombing case

Police arrested a Mayfair man after he allegedly shot at and firebombed an unoccupied Frankford house Thursday morning.

No injuries were reported in connection with the 6:35 a.m. incident, said Officer Christine O’Brien, a Philadelphia police spokeswoman. Witnesses told police that they saw a man fire several rounds from a handgun toward a house on the 1500 block of Foulkrod St. The gunman then forced open a door and tossed what appeared to be a bottle with a flaming rag into the residence, O’Brien said.

The gunman may have fired more shots before fleeing.

Police soon received a tip from an undisclosed source identifying the gunman as Michael Holley, 34, of the 2600 block of Elbridge St. Officers arrested him at his home shortly before 7 p.m.

Holley remained in police custody on Friday afternoon with formal charges pending. Police did not disclose a suspected motive. ••
