The Philadelphia Protestant Home recently celebrated 16 centenarians at its annual luncheon honoring residents 100 and older.

A slideshow captured pictures of the honorees, accompanied by oldies such as Thanks for the Memories and Sh-Boom (Life Could Be a Dream) and a look at 1926, when Mel Brooks was born (and is still alive), Winnie the Pooh was introduced in a book, Calvin Coolidge was president and Prohibition was in effect.

The crowd sang Happy Birthday, and each honoree received a certificate, gift bag, America 250 pin and cupcake.

Among those in attendance were Kelli Mills, PPH executive director; state Rep. Anthony Bellmon; Sharlene Waller, executive director of the Mayor’s Commission On Aging; and representatives of state Sen. Tina Tartaglione, City Councilman Anthony Phillips and U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle.

Bill Conaway, PPH director of community relations, was the emcee. ••
